There was no one else there when I got to the beach, and although the wind was just about right for kite-surfing at around 15-16 knots I decided against it on my own and rigged my big windsurfing kit instead.

Just as I was about ready to go, Graham, Col and Criag turned up to go kite-surfing. I stuck with windsurfing anyway. At first there was just ebough wind, but it was pretty marginal and with the big waves a little risky out there. I did catch a couple of logo high faces on the way back in which allowed me to hold my ground upwind, but one mistake in amongst the white-water would have led to a long swim and lots of broken kit. I decided to wait around for a bit to see what would happen.

First the wind dropped and Graham was talking about getting a bigger kite out (16m rather than the 12 he had just set up). Derek turned up and hung arund for a while as well. then the wind filled back in so off I went again. This time it was gusting to 25 knots and I was completely maxed out, and at times overpowered with my 6.3. Unfortunately my 5.7 hasn't returned from being repaired yet as that would have been perfect. My 5m wouldn't have been enough on a smaller board, so I just hung on to the bigger sail and had a good time out there. I decided to stay out the back most of the time as I don't like messing around with walls of whitewater with big sails, but there was still plenty of big ramps out the back.

There was also a lot of debris washed down the rivers from yesterdays storm, so I had to keep my eyes open for that. Derek and Col seemed to have a good kite-surf session, but from what I saw Grahm and Craig ended up a little overpowered and just had a big walk of shame!!

A good, exhilirating session.
